Xmas Santa Float

Our fund raising with our Xmas Santa float was once again a great success, we thank all of you who donated.

Annual Auction

Once a year we hold an auction this year it took place on Saturday 3rd February 2001 at the Institute of Braintree, we shall include a total raised soon.
Just to let you know what we have done over the last 21 years here's a selection :-
- Raised money for the Essex Air Ambulance - one of our members owes his own
life to this service.
- We do the gardening for old or less able people on a regular basis.
- We drive a mini bus each week to pick up mentally handicapped people and
take them to the Gateway club in Braintree.
- We also provide a weekly transport system to the Alzheimers club.
- We have provided special holidays for blind people.
- We have provided holidays on the Norfolk Broads for disabled children.
- Give old folk Christmas parcels.
- Give money to Braintree Hospital Radio.
- Are providing financial support to Southview School Pool appeal.
- Give money to Edith Borthwick School - a special needs school.
- Each year help to fund the visit to the UK of about 20 children affected by
the Chernobyl Nuclear disaster.
- Provide meals at Christmas for old needy folk.
- Each Christmas we give sweets to social services for needy children.
- Internationally we have provided money for Water Wells in Africa.
- Glasses for sight aid.
- Money to educate young people in Third World countries.
And many more local and international projects.
We also welcome ideas on NEW projects that we can undertake.
We do all this by raising money throughout the year from our Christmas Santa
Float, raffling large easter eggs, taking our own Lions Train to school
fetes, we also hold an annual auction where we sell items collected throughout the
year.
We hold many social functions for our members including Dances, Ladies
Nights, Dinners at each others houses, we go bowling, play sport, have a car
treasure hunt, hold BBQ's and many other things.

We currently have 24 members aged from 29 to 78 years of age but the average age is around 45 - our ladies/girlfriends/partners help at many of our events but a few more members would help us.
We are currently looking for new members, so if you are aged 21 years or over and are prepared to spare 2/3 hours per week helping other people or helping to raise money for our charity account - we are a registered charity and our charity number is 1058615, please get in touch.
