Your committee were pleased at the level of interest shown by the residents of G.N.G.V. with reference to the two questionnaires distributed last January and more recently in August concerning the revised plans of the proposed public house/restaurant submitted by Countryside plc.
73% of the returned votes were in favour of the pub being on the proposed site, but of a much smaller scale. Unfortunately the powers that be disregarded public opinion. Your committee will keep a watchful eye on developments and will consult you again should the need arise.
Concern is widely felt at the lack of police coverage in the area. It is recognised that limited finance places a constraint on manpower, but nevertheless it is essential that a reasonable degree of security is provided and we will be making representations to the relevant bodies in an endeavour to improve the situation.
Your committee had hoped to be able to announce a date for a long overdue Annual General Meeting, but to date this has not proved to be possible due to both the large and small halls in the Community Centre being fully booked on a regular ongoing basis. Now that the new school in Queenborough Lane has been opened enquiries will be made regarding the availability of the school hall. As soon as a date can be confirmed we will advise all concerned.
As this newsletter is the first since mid July we are pleased to advise the results of the Garden Competitions.
The Front Garden competition was won by Mr. & Mrs. Beard of 20, Shelduck Crescent who received £50 in garden vouchers and a cup to be held for one year. Both prizes were donated by David Wilson Homes.
The Rear Garden competition was won by Mr. & Mrs Garton of 75, Wood Way who received a voucher for £50 donated by Greene King to be used for dining at the Green Dragon.
The Residents Association Committee has representatives on the Great Notley Garden Village Liaison Forum, which meets quarterly to discuss matters of local importance and we would be happy to take up any relevant matters with them on your behalf.
Although the minutes of the Liaison Forum are publicly available at Causeway House the public are not admitted to these meetings. We will therefore arrange for copies to be displayed on notice boards in the village.
