Great Notley Garden Village Residents Association
Newsletter Number 3
Date : 7th. Oct. '98.
Welcome to the third newsletter of your organisation and please note that there will be a meeting of the Residents Association in the small hall of the Community Association building on Monday, the 12th. October, 1998. at 7.30p.m.
Nicola Webb, a senior Essex C.C. Trading Standards Officer will speak on the rights of the public when purchasing goods and services. She will also explain the considerable amount of free assistance available in achieving satisfactory conclusions to disputes.
Certain developments are afoot in the village that may be of interest or importance to a number of
residents living in the locality of the new doctors' surgery. These new projects are not being widely advertised by Braintree District Council. Maybe Braintree District Council fear that residents will be concerned about environmental problems such as additional motor traffic in the village, litter, focus for teenager assemblies, etc.
Developments are to be centred on land adjacent to the doctors surgery and initially will include a
Chinese take-away business and a veterinary surgeon's practice. Also, and probably a little later a pub/restaurant is envisaged. Nothing concrete is emerging about this particular project, but rumour has it that an an individual from the Southend area who already runs a chain of such restaurants is the probable entrepreneur.
Enquiries by your Chairman have elicited no plans by the Braintree District Council to publicise these plans except to inform the local press and the Braintree Times only print what they feel is appropriate. The result is that any concerns of residents in the vicinity of these new developments may not be considered. Anyway not everybody takes and reads the Braintree Times.
Notice of these developments has been received too late to hold a referendum amongst residents who may feel strongly on these matters and so it can only be said that sight of the plans are available for inspection at Causeway House and the closing date for objections is the 8th. October.
There will not be any opportunity for a meaningful discussion of these new developments at the forthcoming meeting on the 12th October because by then it will be too late.
