Great Notley Garden Village Fete on Saturday, 10th. July.
Everyone is invited to join in the fun at this year's village fete on the 10th. July. Football fans come early and watch the action. The Junior tournament kicks off at 9.30am with matches through the day.
The official opening is at 1.15pm with all the usual attractions including Bouncy Castles, Coconut Shy, Stalls and fun rides. The gentle roar of gleaming Harley Davidson motorbikes and the traditional spectacle of Morris Dancers are this year's new attractions.
Come for an alfresco lunch from the Scout's delicious BBQ, or a traditional ploughman's lunch served in the Hall. Alternatively relax with a pint in hand and listen to the fabulous Dirty Works Band - back by popular demand. Animal lovers bring along your favourite friends and join in the Pet Show.
This year's grand raffle has a £100 first prize along with many others. Tickets available on the day.
Proceeds from the fete will be divided equally between the Junior Football Club, the 1st. Great Notley Scout Group and the Community Association.
Funfair on the Village Green.
Fairly recently it was learned that a Funfair was to be held on the Village Green, but no notices were put around. It was all very low key and at first it was believed that it would only be a one-day affair. Then rumour spread that it was to have been an event lasting for a whole week and people living near to the village green began to get disturbed. The Residents Association did not get any advance notice, but a rising tide of opposition from residents living near to the village green to the Funfair with the inconvenience, noise, music etc. brought about a cancellation. Well done those local residents.
Car parking problems.
The media have recently highlighted a serious problem in the villages around Stansted Airport with what has become known as "fly parking". Because airport parking charges are back breakingly high, for 1 and 2 week periods motorists have taken to parking 'off limits' and getting taxi transport to the departure entrances. Local residents are understandably furious at not being able to park outside their homes and Parish Councils are taking steps to prevent this nuisance. One is to put parking restrictions in place for limited periods during the day whereby parking ticket charges would exceed the high charges for airport parking. Another is to forbid taxi drivers to pick up fares from the street.
Another problem is parking at Chelmsford main line station when travelling to London. One unlucky person recently parked in an unmarked spot and received a ticket. He was not even guilty of causing an
obstruction.
For several years we two neighbours have ferried each other to and from airports like Stansted and Luton. Now we are extending the facility to Chelmsford main line station, and Chelmsford is no great distance. Just an idea and there is no copyright.
