Great Notley Garden Village Residents Association

Newsletter Number 9

Date : 19th July, 1999.

All members of the Great Notley Garden Village Residents Association should have, by now, received the "VILLAGE UPDATE" letter very recently distributed by Countryside plc. Re the "Village Pub" it says on page 2 "Finally we have listened very carefully to the views expressed to us by all of you regarding the new village pub and as a result we have re-designed the building. We suggest Countryside plc., re-read the minutes of the public meeting to get a fuller understanding of our views which have nothing to do with the colour of the bricks and tiles.

Countryside have not given us any dimensions or facilities to be provided and in the absence of these we are left to draw our own conclusions about the acceptability of the new complex. By all appearance the new (NEW?) design appears to be little different from the design voted out at the public meeting in January.

A public meeting will be held to which you will be invited together with a representative from Countryside plc. An invitation will also be extended to the entrepreneur. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and rest assured that the majority voice will be heard.

It has been stated on good authority that the new complex will have a function hall and if this has a public entertainment licence it will be legally required to provide "bouncers" and security staff. Do the residents favour any public hall that needs to provide bouncers to keep order? Is such a facility appropriate in the middle of a residential area?

With possible changes in the licensing laws in the not too distant future, round the clock drinking, together with entertainment could be a feature that most of us would find totally unacceptable.

The Residents Association and members are unanimously in favour of a village pub with catering facilities of a suitable size. We are not against a village pub, but we are deeply suspicious of what is being offered.
