Traffic Calming
Great Notley was the first development in the country to incorporate traffic calming measures throughout its road network and to introduce 20mph speed limits. 20mph zones have been proven to halve the number of casualties within residential areas and many different measures are utilised to achieve this including, speed control islands, chicanes and tables, with the additional benefits that air and noise pollution are also reduced.
An independent network of footpaths and cycleways additionally provides safe and convenient routes for pedestrians and cyclists, between the hamlets, village facilities and the local primary school.

|
|
Village Green
Great Notley is centred around the 6-acre village green which is the venue for a variety of different activities including cricket on the square. Thirty six semi-mature English oak trees encircle the green in a traditional manner, with the family homes beyond them benefitting from superb views of this time honoured village scene.
Informal greens and more formal squares also feature within the residential areas and lend an established, spacious feel to the individual developments.

|
Ponds
Thousands of ponds are lost each year throughout Great Britain due mainly to agricultural infill.
At Great Notley particular attention has been paid not only to retaining and enhancing existing water features, but to creating new ones.
The village ponds in the Notley Green Hamlet were originally designed around an existing pond, with a new pond being created alongside it. A copse of more than 20 mature trees was transplanted by the largest tree-mover in Europe.
The mature and natural environment which is evident today was completed by the introduction of ornament ducks and geese, together with a variety of fish.
